The goal of this project is to gather solutions for efficient ventilation for homes. As we’ve been upgrading our 1960s home, naturally the home exchanges less air and the air “feels” stale, confirmed with an air quality monitor. Many homes have ducting, which can make ventilation easier using existing infrastructure, but many other homes are using ductless splits or there can be particular areas or rooms that need additional venting regardless of the existing setup.
ERV Reworking
While there is a fully open source hardware ERV/HRV, searchable, my approach is to repurpose existing hardware since this is something difficult to home manufacture currently. The enthalpy core, what exchanges heat, is the most difficult piece but the total packaging too is tricky to build as a refined unit. Given that, the starting place is reworking a Mini-ERV purpose made for ductless homes but additional units that need freeing from cloud networks or other adjustments will be added also.
